Our design process

Good design requires understanding the user before picking up a design tool. We follow a six-stage process that grounds every visual and interaction decision in research and testing rather than assumption.

Discovery and stakeholder interviews

We begin by talking to the people who understand the business goals, the existing product, and the intended users. These conversations surface the constraints, priorities, and success criteria that should drive every subsequent design decision.

User research

Where users are available, we conduct research through interviews, task observation, or structured sessions to understand how they currently behave and where they experience difficulty. We also analyse product analytics and conduct a competitor audit to understand what the target audience has already been trained to expect.

Information architecture and wireframing

Before any visual design work begins, we define the structure: what content exists, how it is organised, and how users will navigate between sections. Wireframes are low-fidelity and deliberately rough so that feedback focuses on structure rather than aesthetics.

High-fidelity design in Figma

Once structure is agreed, we move to high-fidelity designs in Figma covering all key screens and responsive breakpoints. We build with a component system from the start so that the design is consistent, scalable, and directly usable by the development team.

Prototype and usability testing

For complex flows, we build interactive prototypes in Figma and test them with real users in structured sessions. Findings are fed back into the design before development begins. Catching usability issues at prototype stage is substantially cheaper than fixing them after build.

Handover and implementation support

Handover includes a full design system with named components, design tokens for spacing, colour, and typography, and component-level annotations for development. Where we are also building the product, this handover feeds directly into the component library. Where a separate team is building, we remain available to answer questions during the implementation sprint.
